How Wirescan technology supports real-time insight into cable condition during offshore handling and installation.
The challenge
Jan De Nul, a global leader in offshore energy infrastructure, wanted real-time insight into the condition of subsea power cables throughout handling and installation on its cable-laying vessels.
The approach
Since 2023, Jan De Nul has used Wirescan Digital, the cloud-based monitoring platform powered by LIRA® Technology, on its cable-laying vessels. It was used on several subsea cable installation projects, including Greenlink (UK) and Lightning (UAE).
Real-time monitoring gives continuous quality assurance of cable integrity from the moment the cable leaves the factory during load-out until the cable-laying process is complete. It creates a transparent and traceable cable condition history, suitable for both HVDC and HVAC subsea power cables.
The outcome
After a two-year collaboration, and more than 1,000 km of cable installed with Wirescan technology, Jan De Nul is expanding Wirescan Digital across its entire cable-laying fleet.
