LIRA® located an anomaly on a 220 kV offshore wind export cable after an abnormal bend during installation, saving an estimated EUR 600,000.
The challenge
An incident during the installation of a 7.7 km, 220 kV XLPE offshore wind export cable left an abnormal bend in the cable. Time-domain reflectometry (TDR) did not detect any anomaly.
The approach
Wirescan carried out a LIRA® assessment of the cable, identifying and locating an anomaly on one of the phases at the location of the bend.
The outcome
- Unforeseen post-installation costs and liabilities avoided, with an estimated saving of EUR 600,000
